Winner of the prestigious Guildhall Gold Medal, British Soprano Jennifer Witton graduated from the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Sarah Pring.In the current season, Jennifer debuted with the Royal Shakespeare Company in the role of Juno in The Tempest with music by Paul Englishby.

Jennifer has understudied the role of Euridice/La Musica in Monteverdi’s Orfeo for the Royal Opera House directed by Michael Boyd and conducted by Christopher Moulds.  She also recently covered the roles of Donna in Handel’s Rinaldo conducted by Ottavio Dantone and Chocholka in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen for Glyndebourne Festival Opera.

Other roles include Lucia Rape of Lucretia (Britten), Eleonora Le donne curiose (Wolf-Ferrari),  Aphrodite Phaedra (Henze) GSMD, Rosa Isabella (Leith) ROH/GSMD, Page Le Roi malgré Lui WFO, Lauretta Gianni Schicchi FULHAM OPERA, and Anna I Die Sieben Todsünden GSMD.  Roles in staged excerpts include Cleopatra Giulio Cesare, Drusilla L’incoronazione di Poppea, Hero Béatrice et Bénédict, Thérèse Les mamelles de Tirésias, Sifare Mitridate and Pamina Die Zauberflöte.

She has worked with Royal Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Opera North, Wexford Festival Opera, Raymond Gubbay ltd, Opera di Peroni and has performed at venues including St Martin-in-the-fields,  Barbican Hall, Barbican Theatre, Royal Albert Hall and the Wigmore Hall.

Active also in both concert and recital, Jennifer’s repertoire encompasses a wide range of genres.  Some highlights include a recital of French song with Iain Burnside at St Endellion Festival, Wolf’s Italienishches Liederbuch recital at the Barbican Hall, Schumann’s Spanisches Liederspiel at St. Martin-in-the-fields, Britten’s On this Island in a lecture recital with Graham Johnson and Ravel’s Cinq Mélodies Populaires Grecques in the recital series Song in the City.

A Concordia artist and Britten-Pears young artist, Jennifer has enjoyed success at numerous competitions including receiving a Miriam Licette Award at the Maggie Teyte awards 2015, first prize at the Rosenblatt recital award for the North London Festival of Music 2014, first prize in the Aria prize for the GSMD 2014, the song prize at the Emmy Destinn awards 2013, the Winchester consort prize at the Hampshire singing competition 2013 and she was a finalist in the Maureen Leharne vocal awards 2013. Most recently she has been awarded the Grace Keagy award from the 2017 Lotte Lenya competition.

Jennifer was part of recording the CD ‘Voices of London’. A CD of  songs all about the city. This includes the newly commissioned song cycle of the same title with songs by Graham Ross, Raymond Yiu, Joseph Atkins and James Lark. This CD was the launch of the ‘Song in the city’ label born out of the recital series by pianist Gavin Roberts.  She has also recorded the music from ‘The Tempest’ and is available on CD.
